Carbon Trade Ltd, through its long term consultancy work
with Arbutus Renewables Ltd was awarded the contract by Grupo
Corporativo Saret to provide technical information to bid
an international tender for power generation on the Rio Azul
Landfill in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Mexico-Methane Gas Capture and Use at Landfill
Demonstration Project
Project Location: Monterrey, Mexico
Start Date: July 2001 Finish Date: May 2003
Sistemas Metropolitano de Procesamiento de Desechos Solidos
(SIMEPRODESO) was awarded a US$4.92 million grant from the
Global Environment Facility of the World Bank for the above
project. The purpose of the project included:
- Generation of electricity from landfill gas produced by
the SIMEPRODESO landfill
- Demonstration of an institutional structure that includes
private sector participation.
- Development of federal and municipal programs for the beneficial
use of landfill gas
- Design of a replication strategy for comparable cities in
Mexico.
